After the death of her father, Pollyanna moved in with her aunt, Miss Polly. Pollyanna was eleven years old. She had no family left, no father, mother, or sisters. Miss Polly, on the other hand, was forty years old. She had a magnificent house on the hill and plenty of money, but she had no friends. She claimed she didn"t want any, preferring a solitary and peaceful life. However, now a little girl was coming to stay with her. Miss Polly understood her responsibilities, but she wasn"t certain.
